It all began with an idea. Why not do art for a living? But in today’s day and age we all know the common proverb of “struggling like a starving artist” This is unfortunately an all too real situation for most people who practice a craft. That’s where we aim to change the narrative.
As an artist in multiple crafts, I Brandon Neely (owner and founder of Artistic Odysseys) spent a large part of my life trying to enjoy my crafts and looking forward to spreading my creativity to others. However, people with an apparent concern made it a point to try to encourage me not to sell or professionalize my work because to many, it is a remarkably expensive and difficult market to penetrate.
As an adult trying to find some other means to find fulfillment in what I do, I started asking myself questions, such as: why is it so difficult? What makes it so expensive? and what makes it unsustainable as a profession?
With these questions in mind, I went back to school and decided instead of educating myself on art, to try a different approach, that of business. For years I studied modern marketing and laws, accounting and management, among many other aspects of business. and once I graduated I aimed to build this company in the hopes that I could find the answers I sought for artists like myself.
In 2023 the LLC had been formed and the journey to start the search had begun. The plan is for the first year of operation to test the waters of social media and my local and state markets and see if I as an individual can:
1) make sales consistently and with enough profit to sustain the business
2) Build a website that can not only handle the sales, but evolve to handle all contract commissions and to meet the scheduling needs of myself and others
3) simplify and/or organize the process in a manner that makes it easier to understand and allow other artists to operate professionally under the Artistic Odysseys platform
Once I have achieved these goals and met certain profit gain thresholds, the next step will be to expand Artists and the services we can provide so that customers can have a more enriching and diverse opportunity to fulfill their creative needs.
So stick around, feel free to browse and message us, and stay in contact. We are always looking to improve and develop and as such we appreciate feedback and communication.
Side note (current status): As of now the owner is running this firm on his own time while working full time during standard business hours. Please be aware that this means all orders and interactions will be processed and handled outside of business hours and that all attempts to communicate and address matters in an expedited fashion are currently limited. As the business grows and if a living can be made from sales without taking from the business drawing account, then the business will become a full-time endeavor and as such our responsiveness will improve. Please be patient and let us say thank you for visiting, and we look forward to working with you, or at the very least we are grateful for your time.
